A vibrating wire strain gauge is a highly reliable, precision sensor used to measure strain in concrete, steel, rock and soil structures – including pile tests, load-bearing beams and tunnel segments.
At Geosense, we offer a full suite of wire strain gauges, surface mount, embedment, spot weld, strand anchor, sister bars and rebar strain meters, all backed by rigorous quality control and a 2-year warranty, so you can trust the integrity of your measurement data.

Vibrating wire strain gauge typical applications (not limited to)
Wire strain gauge monitoring sensors are essential for measuring stress and strain in:
- Steel struts, excavation supports, and reinforcement bars
- Pile testing, tunnels, deep excavations, and retaining structures
- Bridges, arches, dams, and buildings
- Mass concrete pours, precast elements, and foundations
- Capturing dynamic measurements and strain in stranded anchors
Monitoring Systems Integration – Manual and Wireless Systems
Our range of vibrating wire strain gauge sensors is designed to be easily read by our portable devices or integrated with our dataloggers, wireless nodes and gateways to build automated monitoring systems.
Types of Vibrating Wire Strain Gauges
We offer a range of vibrating wire strain gauges for different system monitoring needs:
Surface strain Mount Gauge is designed for the long-term monitoring of steel or concrete structures
Embedment Strain Gauge or a concrete strain gauge is designed for direct embedment in concrete. The VWS-2125 can be used within mass concrete with coarse aggregates, as its heavy-duty construction resists bending, and the large end flanges provide a high contact area
Spot Weld Strain Gauge is designed primarily to measure strains on the surface of steel structures, but may also be used on other types of material
Strand Anchor Strain Gauge is designed for the monitoring of strain along stranded anchors
Sister Bars and Rebar Strain Meters are designed to be embedded in concrete to measure strains due to imposed loads. The Sister Bar version is installed by tying it alongside an existing length of rebar within the cage, and the Rebar Strain Meter is installed by welding it into the existing rebar cage
