Meet Ross Millard: The Production Manager Behind Our Manufacturing Excellence

Page Contents

Behind every sensor we manufacture is a team committed to precision, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Leading our production operations is Production Manager, Ross Millard, who oversees production planning, coordinates manufacturing activities, and ensures customer requirements are delivered on time and to the highest standards.

We sat down with Ross to discuss the realities of manufacturing sensors for major infrastructure projects, the importance of delivering consistent, reliable products, and what makes our in-house manufacturing capabilities such a valuable advantage for our customers.

Leading Manufacturing Excellence

As Production Manager, I oversee the manufacturing process, from production planning and resource allocation through to assembly, testing, and delivery.

My role is to ensure our production operations run efficiently and safely, enabling the team to deliver sensors on time and to the high standards our customers expect.

I lead a skilled team across production, assembly, and testing, working closely with engineering, procurement, quality, and project teams to ensure customer requirements are fully understood and translated into reliable, high-quality products.

Manufacturing Sensors for Demanding Environments

Infrastructure projects often operate in demanding environments, so reliability and durability are critical.

One of the biggest challenges is ensuring that every sensor can withstand long-term exposure to environmental conditions such as moisture, temperature fluctuations, vibration, and heavy usage.

Another challenge is managing project-specific requirements. Many infrastructure projects require customised solutions, which means maintaining flexibility in manufacturing while ensuring consistency, traceability, and efficient production throughout the process.

Building Quality into Every Stage

Quality is embedded throughout every stage of our manufacturing process. From incoming component inspections to assembly, calibration, and final testing, each step follows established procedures designed to ensure consistency and reliability.

Every sensor undergoes comprehensive verification and performance testing before leaving our facility. We also maintain detailed documentation and full traceability throughout production, enabling continuous process improvement and ensuring customer requirements are met. Regular training, collaboration across teams, and a strong culture of continuous improvement all play an important role in maintaining the high standards our customers expect.

Delivering on Time Without Compromising Standards

The key to meeting project deadlines while maintaining quality is careful planning and communication.

We schedule production activities, monitor progress closely, and identify potential risks as early as possible. While deadlines are important, quality is never compromised.

By investing in efficient processes, skilled personnel, and robust quality controls, we can maintain high standards while delivering on time. Close collaboration between production, engineering, and project management teams also helps us respond quickly to changing project requirements.

The Value of In-House Manufacturing

Having our own manufacturing facility gives us greater control over production schedules, manufacturing processes, and product development.

It allows us to respond quickly to customer requirements, implement improvements efficiently, and maintain close oversight of the manufacturing process.

For customers, this means greater consistency, shorter lead times, full product traceability, and the confidence that their products are manufactured in a closely controlled environment. It also enables us to deliver more customised solutions when projects require them, while maintaining the high standards our customers expect.

A Proud Achievement: Supporting Growth Through Continuous Improvement

One of my proudest achievements has been helping to strengthen and streamline our manufacturing processes while maintaining exceptionally high-quality standards.

A great example is how we manufacture In-Place Inclinometers (IPIs). Through improvements in workflow, team collaboration, and production efficiency, we have been able to increase output and support the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects.

Equally rewarding has been seeing the growth and development of the team. Building a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and pride in our work has had a positive impact on both our operations and the service we provide to customers.

Looking Ahead

For me, what’s really important is that manufacturing success isn’t just about processes and technology – it’s about people.

Whether it’s solving challenges on the production floor, supporting colleagues, or finding new ways to improve, it’s the commitment of the team that makes the difference.

That shared focus on quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement helps ensure our customers receive reliable monitoring solutions they can trust, project after project.
